We saw this post on SunniForum about this video showing the method of prayer according to the Shafi’i madhhab. Even though we admire and respect all of the schools of thoughts of our rightly guided scholars, since the whole team at IslamCrunch are Shafi’is, this video piqued our interest. This is another brilliant example of Muslims using technology and social media to educate each other and people of other faiths about Islam. Social media? Check out the YouTube page to add this to your social channels. You can also download the video here. Check out the original source here.
This method of prayer is based on Imam Nawawi’s Maqasid:

Particls helps you track your favorite sites and apps by displaying desktop alerts for important changes.

The web is just too big. No one has time to keep track of all the sites, conversations and interesting bits and pieces that interest them. We all have real work to do and lives to live! So what if you could subscribe to the sites you like best and be notified when they change. Particls even works out how important the new information is to you and displays a proportional alert. For example, general information can be displayed on a news ticker, important stuff might appear on a popup alert and urgent information could be SMS’d to your phone. Think of it like a highly advanced widget or filtered feed reader. Best of all – it’s free.

However, it’s currently only available if you are invited. To earn an invite, simply post IslamCrunch on your Facebook profile, MySpace page, on a forum, on your blog, on your website or any place you can think of that will prominently feature IslamCrunch. You can put our widget on your site as well (http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/technology-web-20-muslim-ideas-). After you have done so, contact us here to inform us.

We have 5 invites available. Invites will be delivered after review of where you posted IslamCrunch. You can grab the logo here: http://www.islamcrunch.com/islamcrunch_logo.jpg

Here’s the scenario: You are at an event and you meet someone, screaming familiarity. So you scan through your brain. Maybe it’s a friend of a friend, someone you know on Facebook, from a photo off Flickr, but you just cannot place the face.

Then, realization hits, you have just met someone famous. We met Ali Qazi after an introduction from his brother, our friend Faisal Qazi. After the mental scanning and introduction formalities, we had a chance to sit down with the lead guitarist and main songwriter of Project26. He was humble and down-to-earth, treating us with utmost respect. We asked Ali to share with us their latest adventures in the music world. Ali provided updates on the status of their recordings and future plans. Even though he was keen on learning from Shaykh Hamza Yusuf and Imam Zaid Shakir, he spent time talking to us about the band and the Muslim community.

Latest news: Project26 have just launched a new promotion: 26 Days to get a FREE CD. Visit their site for more details. Also, take a look at their MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/project26theband

For an insight on America’s first all Muslim rock group, read the interview here. Facebook users can join their group page by clicking on the band photo above.

Next performance: Open Mic Night at Barako Coffee & Patisserie, 19756 Colima Rd, Rowland Heights, CA. May 18, 2007

IslamCrunch: What is your music about?

Project26: Our music is about us. It constitutes and reflects our personalities, our views and whatever influences make up the people that we are. [www.Project26.com]

IslamCrunch: Why did you start this project?

Project26: A distinct Muslim American culture is brewing and every culture creates its own expressions. So it was only a matter of time when Muslim Americans would step up and express themselves in various ways. We’re just happy to be part of that expression.

IslamCrunch: How does your project relate to Muslims? Or is your project geared towards a general audience?

Project26: After 9/11, the general public was asking Muslims to come out and show themselves for what they truly are. That request was hard to understand because Read the rest of this entry »

Alhambra Productions has just announced that they plan to release a new CD set by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf in the late spring of 2007. Titled “The Alchemy of Happiness by Imam Al-Ghazali”, this set was recorded during the Rihla journey in 2006, organized by the Deen Intensive Foundation. We have several friends who participated in the Rihla who have praised this class that Shaykh Hamza conducted. For more information on the 2006 Rihla, read this blog. We have been blessed to listen to a sneak preview of this audio set and we have to say that Shaykh Hamza is in the zone. Very profound material.

Update: sneak preview of new banner
