label their site as “SPIRITUAL HEALING and WELLNESS OF BODY, MIND AND SOUL”. A variety of ailments are listed with their cures and remedies. The ailments and curses are a definite mix of interesting. Some of the illnesses seem to be archaic in this modern age of 21st century technology (for example: rune readings, necromancy, Sumerian magic, Babylonian magic, Chaldean magic and more). Before your eyes glaze over, the site also claims to help you “cope with depression, anger, anxiety, insomnia, mental illnesses, cancer…” Wait, there’s more. QuranicHealing.com also claims to help you protect yourself against reincarnation (hold on, I want to be reincarnated as one of the saliheen, siddiqeen, mujahideen or other pious ranks on the Day of Judgment!), spiritualism and… tai chi!

Not much information is given about the site owner(s) and their background. It is stated on the home page that the content is “inspired by ideas in the Holy Qur’an. Spiritual Healing and Wellness is based on religious resources driven from Allah (God).”

Another aspect of the site caught our eye (no, not the evil eye). The clean design of the site and the vibrant logo were atypical of the usual Muslim forum, portal or directory. QuranicHealing.com is powered by erkPORTAL which is manufactured by , a company that was started by Bulent Arsalan in 2000. ErkSoft also developed - a search engine that helps “shoppers anywhere use the power of information to easily find, compare and buy anything online from marketplace Merchants – in less time and for the best price!”

The team behind have launched the new design of the site and a blog. Essentially, NID is the official website for Imam Zaid Shakir, scholar-in-residence and lecturer at Zaytuna Institute. Under the guidance of Imam Zaid, NID intends to bring a “balanced presentation of Islam and it basic teachings.” The site has audio clips and articles by Imam Zaid plus events he is attending or recommending. The site mentions that they plan on having a monthly videocast which will be accessible for a nominal fee. Additionally, books, CDs and MP3 CDs by Imam Zaid can be from the site.

Navigation is definitely easier with the new design. Now the site ‘feels’ like an Imam Zaid site. It’s good to see Imam Zaid have his own , let’s hope it is updated regularly for our spiritual refreshment. We wish our teacher all the best in his endeavors and we ask Allah to allow us to continue assisting him.

(Disclaimer: most of the IslamCrunch team are students of Imam Zaid Shakir. Our creative director has designed 2 covers and . Our editor has and helped to produce a few audio productions. We are blessed.)
