New York Times Review – Tariq Ramadan’s In The Footsteps of the Prophet
It was refreshing to see Sidi Tariq Ramadan’s book being reviewed in the New York Times. Being mentioned in the New York Times is not new for Tariq Ramadan, as he was recently showcased in a lengthy article.
Even after his US visa controversy, Ramadan is welcomed in the West. His recent lecture series during the Reviving The Islamic Spirit 2006 convention in Toronto, Canada was well received (also the venue for the launch of his new seerah book). Ramadan was also featured in Time.com’s Time 100: The Next Wave as an innovator and spiritual leader.
However, the controversy still will not escape this professor. When using the ‘Share’ tools on the review page the following excerpt is provided by NYT:
The Faces of Tariq Ramadan, By STÉPHANIE GIRY
An interpretive biography of Muhammad sheds light on the political philosophy of its controversial author.

This excellent review by MereIslam preceded the NYT review and is a must read before purchasing the book: http://www.mereislam.info/2007/03/remembering-mercy-to-all-worlds.html
In a recent conversation with Malaysian thinker and author, Dr. Bakri Musa, Dr. Ramadan’s book was highly recommended when asked about his preference for a seerah book for Western readers.
