Yamli – Search the Arabic web using English text
A new web 2.0 search engine has been released that allows you to search the Arabic web using English text. Yamli follows the well-known Google model of having a mimimalist site: a simple search field and and a few links with Yamli’s other service. Actually, the search field (powered by Google) is not ‘simple’. You type in a word and a list of Arabic equivalents is provided in a dropdown menu.
Yamli’s other service is their English to Arabic text editor. Send a message in Arabic and show off your command of broken Arabic language (choosing the correct word will need some knowledge of Arabic, so you could be sending a word that sounds like what you want to express but the letters could be wrong! And different letters changes the meaning). Correction: the Yamli Editor allows you to convert transliterated words into the Arabic equivalent.
Here is what I typed out using the Yamli Editor:
First person to guess what I wrote in English gets a special invite to next the Web 2.0, Social Network or Muslim organization that we receive invites from. Drop a comment to submit your guess.
There is another site www.eiktub.com which offers a similar but much improved service.
eiktub offers a text editor which allows you to write fully vowelized Arabic using an English keyboard. They even support Qur'anic characters as shown in an example here:

AA brother Mikael,
It's very good to find more and more innovators in the muslim world...typing arabic in english form is very popular among the internet users
But actually, the first searchengine website to do this was Onkosh...then about 6 months ago, TayaIt was launched...but it's even much powerful
But I gotta say, the idea of Yamli Editor is out of this world!! literaly
If they can make an API for such service, it will be very useful. I have tons of ideas going in my head right now on how to use such service.
As salamu 'alaykum Brother Safi!
Congrats! Please feel free to ask for a current invite we have available or any future invites. Thanks for taking part. We really appreciate your
support.
The menu bar links are fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Salam,
Mikael
